Lenten Journey
We now find ourselves in the dark and dreary season of Lent. Let us remember that the purpose of this liturgical season is to keep our eyes towards Christ and His Ressurrection which will come at Easter. One of my least favorite things about Lent are the people who feel that they need to compare what they are giving up this year. If you have a spiritual director always get their approval of everything that you do. If you lack one and think it will be best for you to give up a candybar then keep it to your self. The whole world does not need to see that we are doing something out of our love for the Lord. We should also ask ourselves what we want to get out of Lent. Giving up a favorite food is fine, but what do you want to get out of doing that? Maybe each time you feel the urge to eat that food and realize you cannot for it is Lent can be a reminder of something that you need to grow in to better come to Christ at the Easter season. Let us not fear the darkness of Lent, but remember that Christ is still present with us during this awesome season.

Jesus of Nazareth II
On March 9th we will enter into the Lenten season. On March 10th Pope Benedict XVI's sequel to Jesus of Nazareth will be released. It will be a fitting release for the season because it covers Holy Week: From the Entrance into Jerusalem to the Resurrection. My only complaint is with Barnes & Noble. As of right now this book does not exist on the Nook. I have requested it every day for awhile now and hopefully others are doing the same thing.

Declaration Prior to Orders
I the undersigned, (name) son of (name and name) of the (Arch)diocese of (name) having presented my petition to the (Arch)bishop for receiving the Order of Diaconate do now, as Sacred Ordination is at hand, having diligently weighted the matter before God; testify under oath that I am not motivated by any force or fear in receiving this Sacred Order but ask for it of my own free will and choice because I believe that I am truly called by God to do so.
I assert that one and all of the duties flowing from this Sacred Order are fully known to me, which duties I willingly accept and propose with God's help to carry out most diligently all the days of my life.
Especially I swear that I clearly understand the implication of the law of celibacy and that I freely embrace it and will keep it faithfully with God's help until the end of my life.
Finally I swear that, according to the norms of the Sacred Canons, I shall obey most faithfully in all the matters which my superiors command and the discipline of the Church demands and that I am prepared to give a good example in word and deed, relying in the hope that I may be rewarded by God for receiving this Order.

Profession of Faith
I, (name), which firm faith believe and profess each and everything that is contained in the Symbol of faith, namely:
I believe in one God.
The Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is seen and unseen.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit,
he was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, died and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look forward for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
With firm faith I also believe everything contained in God's word, written or handed down in tradition and proposed by the Church, whether by way of solemn judgment or trough the ordinary and universal magisterium, as divinely revealed and calling for faith.
I also firmly accept and hold each and everything that is proposed definitively by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals.
Moreover, I adhere with religious submission of will and intellect to the teachings which either the Roman Pontiff or the college of bishops enunciate when they exercise the authentic magisterium, even if they proclaim those teachings by an act that is not definitive.

Oath of Fidelity
I, (name), in assuming the office of Deacon, promise that both in my words and in my conduct I shall always preserve communion with the Catholic Church.
I shall carry out with the greatest care and fidelity the duties incumbent on me toward both the universal Church and the particular Church in which, according to the provisions of the law, I have been called to exercise my service.
In fulfilling the charge entrusted to me in the name of the Church, I shall hold fast to the deposit of faith in its entirety, I shall faithfully hand it on and explain it, and I shall avoid any teaching opposed to that faith.
I shall follow and foster the common discipline of the whole Church and I shall observe all ecclesiastical laws, especially those which are contained in the Code of Canon Law.
In Christian obedience I shall unite myself with what is declared by the bishops as authentic doctors and teachers of the faith or established by them as those responsible for the governance of the Church; I shall also faithfully assist the diocesan bishops, in order that the apostolic activity exercised in the name by mandate of the Church may be carried out in the communion of the same Church.

Deacon Promises
As deacon promises will be coming up soon for me. I want to give you a glimpse of what we must promise prior to our ordination. Prior to this moment I have searched for what we will be promising very shortly, but have come up empty handed each time. My next three posts will be the various documents that we will sign when we make promises.
